Moxibustion Therapy

● Introduction

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel blood waste and toxins.

Practitioners often do both acupuncture and moxibustion, since they have common principles and give patients better curative effect.

● Medicines and Acupoints

Our doctor add some traditional Chinese herbs into moxa, according to patient’s own illness condition.

This therapy is mainly used on certain acupoints such as Shenshu, bladder meridian, spleen meridian, stomach meridian, du-vessel (governor vessel) and ren-vessel (conception vessel).

Other frequently acupoints: Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Shenque (CV 8),Xuehai (SP 10), Zushanli (ST 36), Taixi (KI 3), Yongquan (KI 1), Shenshu (BL 23), Pangguangshu (BL 28), Shuifen (CV 9), Shuidao (ST 28), Sanjiaoshu (BL 22), etc.

● Administration

Use two doses of moxibustion recipe per day. Put herbal powders into moxa roll or moxa floss.

This therapy can be taken by hands or under the help of a full-automatic moxibustion bed.

Short course of treatment is 7 days, and long course of treatment for 49 days.

● Short-term effects

Improved immunity; relief of fatigue; good appetite; better sleep quality; increased hemachrome; increased urine output.

● Precautions

Be careful to avoid scalding;

Scarring-moxibustion is not recommended;.

Moxibustion is not suitable on an empty stomach;

This therapy is inadvisable for pregnant women.
